Rabbi Ari Shvat

Rabbi Ari  Shvat served for many years as Rosh Midrasha and director of both overseas and Israeli programs at the Michlelet Orot Israel College in Elkana and at Midreshet HaRova in Jerusalem. Raised in Riverdale, N.Y., he did the Hesder Program at the Ohr Etzion and Kiryat Arba yeshivot, where he received smicha and served as a sergeant in Tzahal. Rav Ari is a popular international lecturer, and has published more than 60 halachic and ideological articles in leading Torah journals such as Tchumin, HaMa’ayan, Sinai, Tzohar, and Talilei Orot often dealing with Tanach, religious –Zionism and the writings of Rav Kook (including new previously unpublished manuscripts). He holds a B.A. in Tanach from Michlelet Ya’akov Herzog and an M.A. in Jewish History and Talmud from Lander College in Israel. He enjoys utilizing his music as an educational medium and has produced two albums of original compositions. Rav Ari is currently a senior lecturer at Michlelet Orot Israel, Midreshet HaRova, Midreshet Lindenbaum, Midreshet Moriah, Yeshivat Hakotel and the Israeli Army Air Force, and director of the archives in Beit HaRav Kook. He also replies to halachic questions in English on the Yeshivat Beit El website, where his English lectures can be found. He lives in Kochav HaShachar with his wife Tzvia and their seven children.

Rabbi Ari Shvat has addressed hundreds of communities in Israel and abroad, lecturing in the U.S. (New York, Baltimore, Washington, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia…), Canada, Russia, France, England, and Switzerland, for the Jewish Agency, O.U., Mizrachi, Rabbanei Tzohar, and other religious and Zionist organizations.
