Demonstration in Tel Aviv against the high housing prices

Every day in social media, mainly on Facebook, you can read about young mainly Anglos complain about the living standard and situation in Israel. Housing is expensive and apartments are usually small. The truth is I don’t feel sorry for them at all, since most of them just want to live in cities such as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Israel is much more than just major cities. I understand that singles prefer to live in a city, since it is much easier to build a social life, but as soon as it is time to establish a family I have a harder time to understand it. Why would you prefer to live in an apartment when you for the same price can buy a house in smaller communities across the country? For some people it is more convenient, especially if your work place is a few minutes away by car of if you have a home based business where clients come to you. But most people are not in that situation. In Israel it is very common that people travel a long time to their work place.

You would be surprised, but I am quite sure that in most of the community settlements across Israel both in Judea and Samaria, but also in other rural areas, you will find Anglos. The numbers will not be great but at least you will have someone to speak English with and also someone that probably will be able to help you to settle down in Israel and become a part of the Israel society. Most community settlements offer cheaper housing opportunities than in the cities. You can often rent a private house for the same price as a small and run down apartment in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. Also buying in mainly cheaper in smaller community settlements. Nefesh B’Nefesh has a page on their website about housing in Israel.

Living in Judea and Samaria

Empty land in Samaria. Why not build a new community or more?

Judea and Samaria is the Israeli heart land. This is where Hashem brought in Avraham to the Land of Israel. This is where God promised Avraham the Land of Israel to him and all generations after him. In other words, this is where our real roots are. This is where our forefathers lived and are buried. This is 100% Jewish history. In Judea and Samaria today you can find hundreds of different community settlements and also a couple of cities, such as Ariel, Beitar Ilit and Maale Adumim. But mostly community settlements in Judea and Samaria is a heaven for the people living there. Prices for housing is a lot cheaper than in other areas in Israel and most families can afford to buy a comfortable private home. The prices are a fraction of similar housing in cities or in the suburbs.

But the best thing of living in a community settlement is not the affordable prices, it is the feeling of belonging to a community. To have a safety net around you at all times. You never have to worry about finding someone to pick up your children from kindergarten if you are delayed or someone to help you cook when you have a new baby. And in most cases it is not a longer drive from a community settlement in Samaria to the central parts of Israel around Tel Aviv. And also in many of the bigger community settlements mainly in Gush Etzion and the bigger community settlements in Samaria you will find an Anglo population of somewhere between 20 – 50% of the total population.

One thing that is unique in most community settlements in Har Hevron is the relaxing lifestyle. In difference from many other places, not necessarily community settlements, people in Har Hevron are simple people living in harmony.
